• Evan Tingle
  • I'm an astrophysicist/technical assistant working in the Director's Office for the Chandra X-ray Observatory. When I'm not looking at stars, I maintain databases, manage webpages, and research the non-astronomical aspects of X-ray astronomy.

  • Projects
  • I am responsible for Chandra's presence at the biannual American Astronomical Society meetings and develop scientific and public outreach materials. Recently, a colleague and I created an outreach activity called "Catching X-ray Light" to demonstrate grazing incidence in X-ray mirrors.
  • For the last several years I have been doing research on Cepheid companion stars. Using Hubble observations of ~70 Cepheids, we are looking for young companion stars to then observe in the X-ray band with Chandra and XMM-Newton. This tells us how these stars are formed, and gives insight into overall stellar formation.

  • NASA Headquarters tasked the Chandra Director's Office to determine if gender discrepancy existed in awarded proposal time on the telescope. Compiling the Chandra Gender Statistics entailed the creation of databases, data mining, data entry, statistical analysis, and data visualization.
